Whatever it is you aspire to become that will allow you to walk in your purpose will most likely start with you simply hoping you can accomplish a specific goal.
My journey into writing began much later in my life – I was an adult and was unaware I held a gift in writing. Instead of writing my thoughts down, I would allow a million and one random thoughts to constantly run through my mind. This blog begin as one single thought and has turned into a tool I use to reach many with the intent of changing lives for the better. My mission is to get people to see the importance of living a life of purpose, unafraid of the opinions of others. Is there something in your life that you know you should be doing, but instead, have decided to settle?
The Affects of Fear
I will be honest, before I started this journey of writing, I was extremely hesitant. I didn’t know what I was doing, or how to get started. All my reasons for hitting the pause button came down to one word. Fear. Maybe the same holds true for you.
The word fear is thrown around like confetti in an effort to paralyze us from taking action. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people have taken the bait without analyzing the root of their own fears. When you take the time to do so, you will understand why you have allowed fear to control you in certain areas of your life. Only then will you enable yourself to dismantle the false beliefs and begin to take actionable steps that will stop its control over your life.
My fear was rooted in a lack of confidence. How did I figure that out? I took a step back and realized the truth of why I hesitated to write. The root of my fear was hidden in the fact that I cared what people thought.
For me, writing meant that I had to be vulnerable and that made me uncomfortable. I was afraid of sounding stupid or sounding like I didn’t know what I was talking about. Furthermore, I thought “Why would anybody want to read what I have to say?”
If there is something you have always dreamed of doing, but you keep hitting the pause button and coming up with excuses as to why you can’t, more than likely, the reason boils down to fear. What are you afraid of?
Everything Begins With Hope
All you need is a little bit of hope to start moving in the right direction towards your dreams. You may not know where to start or how you are going to get there but taking your first step is always a step in the right direction. You must have hope in order to believe that whatever you want to achieve is possible. This is why is important to never lose hope.
Without Belief, Nothing Changes
Having faith in yourself and your abilities requires that you sharpen your skills in whatever area you wish to conquer. You must get to a point where you can honestly say, “I believe in myself and my ability to make a difference“. Without belief in yourself and your abilities, nothing will change. Whatever you think about yourself is exactly who you are and will become. Period.
You have to get to a point where you fundamentally you can achieve anything you set your mind to and be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and into new territories in your life.
It is important during this phase that you not allow yourself to give excuses as to why you can’t achieve at a higher level. Excuses will only keep you stuck and comfortable where you are, hindering you from furthering your personal development.
Understand that once you truly start to believe that it can happen for you., things will be presented to you that are beyond your current circumstances.
Your perspective changes from simply hoping to now believing. If you have ever imagined doing something different in your life, and could actually feel the feeling of being in that place or position, then you have actually experienced belief in yourself on a level in life that you are not currently on.
Sadly, most people lose sight of that which they have envisioned for themselves and unconsciously return to their old ways of thinking. Please understand the importance of never losing sight of your vision because once you really start to believe you can become who you desire to be, you will start to transform into that person.
Determination Breeds Consistency
Once you determine that you are going to make major changes in your life and lifestyle, you must decide that you will be consistent in your actions in bringing your vision to pass. This decision must be a firm one that literally shifts your way of thinking.
The words “I will” are the words that set things into motion because when you say those words to yourself, once again this results in you seeing life from an entirely new perspective. You begin to see the possibilities for your life and the life of your loved ones.
At this point you must take action and begin working on achieving your goals. Notice that ideas will begin to come to you, seemingly from nowhere; however, those ideas are your road map for your journey to becoming the person you are supposed to be. This is the hard part because this is when all the work begins and make no mistake about it, the work is hard. But, if you want something bad enough, you will do the work no matter how hard it may be.
Situations will arise that cause you to question if you are doing the right thing or doing things the right way and no doubt, fear will creep in and try to stop you, but you must never quit. Anytime we make a decision to do something different, a part of our minds will fight to stay in the comfort zone. This is called “a test”.
Recognize this feeling of discomfort for what it is. Without being conscious of what is taking place, you could easily fall back into your old ways of thinking and behaving.
Once you begin to take the necessary steps to turn your dreams into reality, you will notice that you also begin to act like the person you are striving to become. Eventually through consistent hard work, you will become a different person.
People will leave your life and new people will start to show up. These are simply signs that you are growing and the things that used to interest you, no longer do.
Begin to see yourself differently and the things around you will change. You will be able to look back and see the changes that have taken place in your life are directly related to the change that took place within your mind. Understand that you are on the right path when you become obsessed with creating the change you want to see.
Your Words Shape Your Future
Your words tell the world exactly how you see yourself, even if, in some area of your life, you are not quite there yet. Any words you use after “I am…” will shape your future.
Who are you? What do you do? What lives are you impacting to make the world a better place to live in? You must be clear about your mission and begin to speak it into existence. Do you transform lives through the written word or by way of speaking to people? Are you an influencer or a healer? Maybe your gift is to make people laugh. Whatever it is, you must be clear about the service you provide to others and why.
It is imperative that you are clear in your thought process because you believe it to be true, even if you have not reached all of my goals. More than likely, you haven’t and that’s okay. We are all a work in progress. You must believe that you are already that which you say you will become. You must see yourself as already being those things.
This is a bold move and takes courage but it is also a necessary part of the process of becoming all that you hope and believe you can be. This is when you must be willing to take the risk of failure which also means you risk the embarrassment that could possible come with failing.
Failing, or what appears to be a failure doesn’t matter. Do not allow that to stop you. You can’t care what other people think, or how they may view the choices you make for your life. It doesn’t change who you are. The way you see yourself is non-negotiable and has to be unwavering. It should not change based on circumstances or other people’s opinions.
Also, keep in mind that when you start to gain momentum, it almost feels like you can’t stop. You must love what I do so much that it doesn’t feel like work.
To completely revamp your life, you must become a different person. Your perception of yourself will have to change dramatically in order to do so. When you are truly ready to change your life, you will become the person you see in your mind and and once this happens, nothing can stop you.
