Are you living your best life?
If you hesitated to give a definite “Yes” to this question, it’s time to dig even deeper and find out why.
Here are five questions to consider that will help determine where you truly are on the scale of living your best life and how to jump-start the process of living the best life you can:
- Am I truly happy or just settling for the life I currently have?
- If not, why am I not at least trying to make a change to my life circumstances?
- Am I doing what I was created to do?
- What steps can I take today to begin to live my best life?
- What would living my best life look like?
Realize after asking these questions, no one else can provide you with the answers. Mistakenly, many times we go searching for life answers from other people. If you are having a difficult time finding the answers to the above questions, I always suggest praying about everything, especially when it comes to gaining clarity about life choices. Afterward, you must trust that you will receive the answers you are searching for.
Everybody has their own version of what it means to live their best life. We are all on individual life journeys and what may be one person’s version of living their best life may look completely different, or opposite from another person’s version of what it means to live life at it’s best.
Be honest with yourself and don’t sugarcoat the truth. Don’t lie to yourself if you know deep down, life has more for you. It’s when you have a feeling that you’re not doing everything you could,or should be doing.
Although I’m not yet where I aspire to be because I am always striving for that next level, my truth at this stage in my life is that I’m living my best life on the level of life I am on. At the same time, I am constantly striving to grow more into who I was created to be. The fulfillment that comes with living my best life is integrated into my life’s mission. As long as I am fulfilling my mission, I will always be living my best life.
Again, I ask you: Are you really living your best life?
- What exactly does that mean for you? Again, it means something different for everyone.
- Are you doing what you love to do? If not, are you doing the work that will eventually create the type of lifestyle you desire to live?
- Do you know what you want out of life?
- Do you know yourself well enough to know what you want out of life?
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t really know who they are, what they like or don’t like. Sadly, a lot of people aren’t ready to face the above questions, although they may feel as if something is missing in their life. Some people refuse to do the work that is required to go to the next level; therefore, they resist change with a fierceness which results in living a life full of regret and resentment.
If you are living your best life because you live on your own terms, you love what you do, and feel that your life is full, then maybe my words can serve as confirmation that you are on the right track in your life. If you are among those who are just merely existing – dragging yourself to a job that you hate, only to feel mentally and emotionally exhausted, then this is for you. Maybe you don’t have a job or you’re in between jobs, trying to figure it all out. If you have no idea what it is you want to do, then this is for you as well. It is time to start living your best life.
Do you know what you want to do, but don’t know how to get there? Most people have built a life that requires it to be maintained on a certain level due to having a family, a house, car note, or kids in school, etc.
When you are living in that space where life requires that you maintain a certain level of stability, but you know you have a higher calling on your life, you must be willing to sacrifice part of your time to do what you are called to do. Spending hours watching TV, talking on the phone, or aimlessly scrolling through social media feeds won’t get you there. Truthfully, you don’t have that kind of time to waste.
If you want to start living your best life, you must be willing to sacrifice something, which usually comes down to how you spend your time.
Living your best life doesn’t come for free and requires a lot of work. If you aren’t where you desire to be, then change how you see yourself and what you feel you deserve. Treat yourself lovingly by practicing self-discipline. Give yourself permission to dream and think about what kind of life you really want to live. Start by believing you can achieve anything you dream of. Go for it, even when it seems impossible because no one has ever achieved anything without at least trying. Keep in mind that life is a journey and nothing happens overnight. You can read more about this here where I dive deeper into the journey of life.
Understand that the definition of living your best life cannot be contained in a checklist of reasons that tell you what it means to do so. Living your best life is personal and unique to you. Who can tell you what your best life looks like but you? This is why you must be self-aware. Start by figuring out what it is you really want.
Maybe living your best life demands that you go on an adventure in life to figure out what it is that you should be doing. What do you feel drawn to? Is it acting or singing. Do you derive satisfaction out of seeing change take place through the written word? If so, start writing. If you love to influence others with your words, go for a speaking career.
What is that thing you can’t stop thinking about? What ideas continue to come to mind that seems to be mere passing thoughts?
I think we live our best lives when we practice living out who we are at our core and at capacity. It is living full out in every aspect of your life and leaving nothing undone. Living your best life is an ongoing process because the definition of what it means beyond the surface of mere words requires that your life unfold and evolve as you grow, becoming more of who you were created to be.
When you know who you are, what you want, and are grateful for what you have right now, you are well on your way to living your best life. When you are hopeful for what you would like to see manifest in your life, faithful in your beliefs, truthful in your actions, purposeful on your journey, and in service to others is when you will know and truly feel that you are living your best life.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts. Please feel free to leave a comment below.
