Go For What You Don’t Know

There’s no challenge in going after something you already know how to obtain. Say, for instance, you want to purchase a car – if it’s not the first time you have bought a car then that’s not a goal; that’s just something you want to do. To be really great and feel like you are progressing in your life, you have to go for what you don’t know by setting some goals that you do not presently know how to achieve. Do you dream of starting your own business, writing a book, being a singer or an actor and being recognized on a national or international level for your expertise? Or maybe its getting married, starting a family, or buying your first home. If its something you have never done but dream about doing and have no idea how to accomplish it, then that’s what you should seek to accomplish. Keep in mind though that it can’t be all about the destination. It has to be about more than just accomplishing a goal because the real excitement is in who you will become while on The Journey of pursuing whatever it is you want to manifest into your life.

Are you willing to let go of what you know (the familiar) and take a chance on yourself? You must be willing to sacrifice being in your comfort zone in order to get to the unknown. You must be willing to invest in your future and in those that will become a part of your future.

I was listening to world renown motivational speaker, Les Brown (@LesBrown77) give one of his speeches and one thing he said that resonated with me is that “it takes courage to live your dreams” and I have come to realize this couldn’t be more true. This is  because not everyone can or will see your vision the way you see it. There’s a reason for this: because it’s yours. Going for what you don’t know requires a mass amount of courage, discipline, persistence, and belief in yourself. To stay stuck in your comfort zone means you will always have what you have always had, which means, you are not dreaming big enough or that you haven’t figured out that thing that drives and motivates you to pursue it.

What I have found to be true is when you make up your mind that you are going to do something no matter what, the universe will align up to whatever you believe and there will be a shift in your world where you will notice different things occurring or becoming present in your life that weren’t there before. You will notice people leaving your life and new people entering your life. This happens because in order for God to give you what your heart truly desires, change must take place. Most people don’t welcome change, but without it nothing different can come into your life. I used to be uncomfortable with change but now if things aren’t changing, I start to feel uncomfortable. You see, when you are growing and becoming more of who you are supposed to be, being uncomfortable becomes the norm and you welcome being in that state. Its like when someone is working out and their muscles get sore from the workout; even though they are in pain, they feel good about it because they know that means progress. No pain, no gain, right? Right.

It can be downright frightening to step into uncharted territory. To go after something that seems too big to possess; to continue down the path despite the obstacles that come against you but that’s also where your faith comes in. This is where you will need a support system: people that believe in you even when you face challenges and the road gets hard because the truth is no one is great alone but anyone can be great where two or more come together.

Sometimes my sister and I will have these deep, somewhat philosophical conversations about our futures, our dreams and aspirations and the one thing she has said to me repeatedly is “Your gifts will make room for you”. Those words actually come from a passage in the Bible from the book of Proverbs, 18:16. What exactly do those words mean though? Everyone, and I mean everyone, has a gift (that doesn’t mean everyone is using their gift) but we all have something that we feel very strongly about and are passionate about. However, not everyone realizes that therein lies their purpose. Not everyone realizes that if they would pursue that which they feel very passionately about, a whole new world would open up to them. This does not mean it will be easy, for nothing worth having is easy to obtain and anything worth having is worth working hard for. The issue with most people is that they don’t want to do the work or they are looking at it from the wrong viewpoint – where it seems so big that  it’s impossible to have. Anything that you can imagine and are passionate about while believing it is already yours, you can have. Anything.

The key is to not lose sight of what you want (even if you don’t know how to get it) because if you don’t give up, things will start to happen that will let you know you are on the right path. Once this happens, it will encourage you to keep going. The hard part is getting started and believing in yourself because if it seems impossible to obtain, it’s easy to get discouraged. I’m here to encourage you not to give up on your dreams. If you don’t know how to make it happen, do what you need to do to learn what needs to be done to make it come true for you. Like I said, it most certainly won’t be easy.  Look at any successful person, study them and I can guarantee you it was not easy for them to get to the place that they are now at. I guarantee you it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears for that person to make it to where they are today, unless, of course, it is someone who was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Even still, those people have to sacrifice something in order to enjoy a certain type of lifestyle. Trust me; nothing comes without paying a price.

Don’t allow fear to stop you from chasing after your dreams or from doing anything in your life that you really want to do, whatever it may be. Just know that you can’t grow until you go for what you don’t know.
